since LJ will finally let me post i can do a proper post. yay!

so to continue on from my last update, i was working a couple of days a week at the place where i did my internship. the people were great, the pay was great and the work (proofreading and inputting editing changes) was fulfilling because i could sit down and concentrate on it and get it all done in a day. i did this for five months and the only thing that began to bug me was how i never knew more than a week in advance what i would be doing next, so i had to be free all the time. this was hard when i felt like i was wasting time on my off days, so i would schedule something and then wind up cancelling because i got called in to work. i guess that's what happens when you're a freelancer. i was also filling in my extra time with lots of tutoring and managed to help a bunch of students get high marks -- some even higher than i got for those particular classes!

anyway so i started looking for full-time jobs and that was fruitless for a long time and then BAM, i got a face-to-face interview (my first; i'd only had a few phone interviews up to that point) and then BAM i got a second round interview. then i actually got the job. I GOT THE JOB. i beat over 300 applicants. O_O so i'm now working full-time as an editorial assistant at a children's book publishing house. it's what i wanted, but i don't think i quite realised everything it entailed! there is a tonne of admin stuff to do (updating spreadsheets, sending out post, taking notes at meetings etc.) but there are also cool things like looking over submitted manuscripts and a fair amount of proofreading. the company isn't massive but it isn't small either, so i'm still getting used to everybody's names and all my roles and i am so, so freaking busy haha. because of my position anyone that wants anything to do with a book (whether that's the latest cover or internals/copy/manuscript or a copy of a recently published book) has to come through me... so i get a lot of email about things. XD but i'm really enjoying it. everybody is nice and patient with me and i'm learning heaps. plus, free books! since the company publishes a lot of YA fiction and i have to get to know the titles anyway, i foresee myself borrowing out the catalogue. <3

so that is my main Big News. i now have a Proper Job.

family and friends are fine. my health is good -- i had all my wisdom teeth out a couple of months ago because they were giving me so much fucking pain but now i'm 100% again. lovelife is still non-existent but something might be happening with that soon. the only exciting thing that's happened since March was the BFL concert.

that's about it, really. oh, and it's my birthday today. :3

miss you guys! y'all need to update more~

okay. hi! i know i haven't updated in forever, but that's because nothing really that interesting has happened since my last detailed post... until now.

i've been looking for a job since January, mainly entry-level publishing roles like editorial assistant. while i've applied for one or two, nothing ever came of it. i'm not surprised since those types of jobs are very few and far between, i.e. extremely competitive. there are A LOT of marketing/sales/publicity assistant jobs, though, but i don't have as much experience with those as i do editorial (plus i want to work in editorial), so i haven't been applying for them. it's meant that i've been in limbo for a while, trying to keep positive while checking job ads everyday and having my parents breathe down my neck, saying things like "why haven't you got a job yet?" maybe because there aren't many out there. i can't apply for a job that doesn't exist. "that's ignorant." uhm, okay, stfu. THANKS FOR THE PRESSURE.

i'd been about to go back to tutoring uni students, something i do on my own so i set my own hours/pay, when i was contacted by the place where i did my internship (discussed here). they offered me freelance work -- mostly InDesign stuff and a little proofreading/editing -- because they're swamped at the moment and need an extra pair of hands. since i loved the place and the people and the pay is amazing of course i said yes! :D it's looking like it'll only be a couple of days, although depending on how much work it turns out to be i was told that could change to a couple of weeks. fingers crossed! while my heart is set on editing fiction, i will gladly edit nonfiction for more experience and money. at this point, anything that'll keep me busy is welcome. i start tomorrow. :3

so that's where i'm at right now. once that job is over i'm going to continue tutoring. meanwhile i'm still looking for something more permanent. man, i kind of miss studying. LOL. being a Proper Adult is hard. =(

what's up with you guys?
